The key to becoming more healthy starts with making daily changes. Whether you want to lose weight or get your blood sugar under control, it’s important to realize that these changes aren’t going to happen overnight. The key to healthiness really comes down to a consistent shift in lifestyle choices. With that in mind, here are 4 healthy habits to add to your daily routine:

1. Physical Activity

The National Institutes of Health recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of exercise per week. If you can just take 30 minutes each day to work out, you will find yourself looking and feeling better. It also doesn’t matter what you do for exercise so find activities you enjoy, whether that’s a game of tennis with your family or a quick jog around the block.

2. Improve Your Sleep Habits

With the business of everyday life, the last thing you probably think about is sleeping. You have so much going on including work, family life, social activities, and more. However, setting a consistent sleep schedule is one of the best healthy habits. Most adults need at least 7 good hours of sleep every night. If you are able to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, you will find yourself being less groggy. There are several other drawbacks of not getting enough sleep, including migraines, mood swings, and less productivity, so now is the time to reset your circadian rhythm with a better sleep routine.

3. Drink More Water

Also, did you know that you may experience mild dehydration during the night when you sleep? Therefore, starting your morning with a glass of water will help to rehydrate your body and get your day off to a great start!

4. Make Time for Family and Friends

As we just mentioned, it seems like every day just gets busier and busier. While it’s important to always make time for yourself, you also don’t want to neglect the ones that are closest to you. Studies have shown that strong social bonds are necessary for your health and well-being. In fact, research has been done that shows those with strong social relationships experience less stress and thus are at a lower risk of heart problems. Even though it seems like there are not enough hours in the day, make an effort to spend a little time each day with those that you care about.
